Cottage Trip in the Kawaratha Lakes area
I had a great opportunity to visit cottage during the weekend of Jun 4 the 2010. The cottage is located in the Kawaratha Lakes area. I was hoping this trip would be a great photography adventure for me but the weather was horrible preventing me from taking my camera gear outdoors. Still I manage to get a few interesting photographs and deal with my hyper destructive shadow (my rough collie) as well as my sister who was worried that the cottage was going to be destroyed by the dog.

My attempt at using HDR photography techniques to create this image. Looking at this image made me realize using a tripod would be the best method for the multiple exposures required for HDR images. Hand held images no matter how sturdy your hand is will have a bit of a shake resulting in a fuzzy HDR.

The dock leading to the water from the cottage property. This picture was slightly over exposed so I duplicated the image using Adobe Photoshop. I then pasted the duplicate image as a second layer of the image on top of the original image as a second layer to achieve this effect.

Relaxing on the dock enjoying the calm. This I though was a nice photo of people enjoying the outdoors.

The next few photos are the view of the lake. It started of as being nice and clear and as time went by we were able to see the rain clouds moving in over the lake.

Heavy clouds moving in on to the lake end a nice sunny clear sky day.

A Common Loon was swimming on the lake close to the dock for several hours. I regret not taking my long telephoto zoom lens as I was not able to get a closer photo of the Loon. also the position of the sun wasn't very helpful as it was in front of the camera making the image a bit dark like a silhouette.

My two nieces posing on the dock. The one was a bit worried as she felt like the doc was moving.

The two girls again posing for one last photo on the dock.

Looking like a giantess. I layed on my back for this photo it made the subject look like she was floating in the air.

Photo of the cottage. Shadow has finally decided that he can't run far as he was tethered to a peg stuck in the lawn.

The boat house of the neighboring cottage. I had to to take several photo in order to get the horizon of this image straight.

Nice calm scene of the lake with a duck swimming close to shore but not close enough for my camera lens.

Roasting marshmallows on the fire. It was a nice evening for a camp fire as the night was getting cold.

She stuck a feather in her head and called it....

This was the last image of the weekend. As the rains came down and the rest of the weekend was spent indoors.

Pictures Of My Back Yard
Some photographs of my backyard during spring as all the blossoms are in full bloom. My Dog Shadow was with me while I was taking these photographs. I couldn't resist taking a few photos of shadow as well. I was using my Nikon D200 camera with my new 24 - 70mm F2.8 which I purchased in March of 2010.

My dog shadow playing and exploring the backyard. I took this photo with while shadow was taking a quick break from exploring his territory. The blue in the background is my neighbours pool which provides some beautiful colour to the entire photo.

The common lilac plant in full bloom. The photo looks a bit out of focus as I had to have a low aperture to take the photo

The garlic mustard plant has now invaded the yard from several years of neglect.
This is an interesting photo as this single weed was grown amongst the perennials fighting for space.

Shadow having a nice roll in the grass. He is a bit blurry in the photo as he never sits still. It was tough photographing him in a low light situation without a flash.

Shadow chewing on a stick on the back lawn. Shadow is 11 months old and is a terribly active rough collie, a tough subject to photograph in low light.

The trees in my yard are very old and magnificent. The canopy of the maple tree attracts a lot of birds which I plan on photographing.

Shadow finally sitting down for a second. But as was taking this photo he decides to move.

I had to lie low with him to get this photo of him looking right into the camera.

A garlic mustard plant flower in a sea of green. The plant looks like its fighting for some space in a crowd.

Shadow loves running through the flower beds or whats left of a once thriving flower bed. I am hoping to have these flower beds redone and fully functional by the end of the summer.

Close up view of these beautiful flowers that seem to appear on the back fence of the yard.

Another photo of these beautiful flowers. I would love know the name of this plant. I took this photo to display the large amounts of flowers this plant produces.

Shadow sniffing around the yard hoping to find some tasty morsel or a stick to chew on.

Every time I look all I see is the stunning tree line which I am always tempted to photograph.

The view of the house from the end of the back yard. we had to build the deck around a large maple tree which I estimate to be at least 60 years old.

View of the backyard and Lawn. I had just finished cutting the lawn and realized that the flow of green from the lawn to the fence line looked impressive and hence I had to take a photo.

A close up of shadow. He was seated long enough for me to take the next two photos before the sun went down and it was to dark .

Close up of shadow resting.
